The interrogation of Shirantha Rajapaksa with regards to the Thajudeen murder and Rohitha Rajapaksa with regards to a satellite that was deployed during the time of the Rajapaksa government was trending on social media in Sri Lanka this part week. The issue was made into puns and memes and the post on the Facebook page of Live at 7 went viral with the comments clearly divided between those who support the Rajapaksa government and those who support the Yahapalanaya government.

  • Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa and the decision of the UNP against him

After Ravi Karunanayake resigned last week, another minister has been in the limelight for entirely different reasons. Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa spoke openly about his opposition with regards to the leasing of the Hambantota Port which caused a lot of upheaval against him in his party. While ministers are asking him to resign, the audience on his page favoured him as expected.

  • Tax reduction for sale of motorcycles imported from Japan

One other news that was trending last week was the statement from the government that the taxes on motorcycles imported from Japan. The Facebook page Bro, tries to give an analysis of how much and in what manner this will happen, because the majority of the public does not fully understand the circumstances of this relief.

  • Sri Lankan cricket takes another hard blow

This particular post on the Sri Lanka Cricket page went viral in the past 12 hours after India won the 01st match of the ODI series by 09 wickets. Many of the public seem to have lost their faith in the future of Sri Lanka’s cricket which can be seen clearly in their comments on the post. This latest defeat comes after a very hard time for cricket in Sri Lanka’s history with fans getting visibly upset and last week after a minister went on social media to publicly troll the team.
