  • Snakes on the beach

With the climatic changes that Sri Lanka saw within the last couple of weeks, including the stormy weather, one of the aftermaths was that what was deemed to be sea snakes were caught by the hundreds to the nets of anglers along the Batticloa area. The news spread like wildfire on social media in Sri Lanka, especially Facebook until the relevant authorities explained that these were just eels and the fact that they were caught does not mean a tsunami is imminent.

  • The railway strike

The railway strike that started last week is one more news item that has been shared widely on social media. In this tweet it is stated that the daily loss for the Railway Department owing to the strike is 120,000 LKR.

  • Provincial election

Ranil Wickramasinghe speaking about winning the upcoming provincial elections, is a video that has caught the attention of the public on social media last week.

  • Hindus kill a Muslim

A video of a Hindu man killing and then burning a Muslim has gone viral on Facebook with over 25k views. The viewers all express anger, disgust and displeasure at the terrible act that was committed in the name of Jihad.

  • Donald J. Trump officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

Trump has officially recognized the Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and said that he will be asking the US Embassy to be moved to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv as well. The tweet received many comments, the majority of which indicate that this too could be one of the many mistakes that Trump has made while others appreciated the fact that he kept the promises he made during his run.
