What went Viral in Sri Lanka?
- Delay of provincial election
This video shared on the Newsfirst.lk Facebook page went viral with over 5k views with the postponing of the Provincial Elections taking the headlines. The Collective of Election Monitoring Organizations stated that the Provincial Council Elections Amendment Bill that was passed in the parliament was anti-democratic. Campaign for Free and Fair Elections or CaFFE called this move the “first ever anti-constitutional attempt reported throughout the parliament history of Sri Lanka.”
- Police officers shouting at civilians at a petrol shed
The video of two policemen from the Maharagama Police Station’s Traffic Regulation Department shouting, at civilians at a petrol shed including a worker of the shed went viral with more than 10k views.
- Hunupitiya Train accident
Another incident that was shared widely on Sri Lankan social media last week was the train accident that happened at Hunupitiya in Wattala when a train collided with a truck that was delivering fruits and vegetables. Nobody was injured in the accident, however, the collision resulted in a major disruption of trains services while the debris was being removed.

- Manushi Chhillar Crowned Miss World 2017
Manushi Chhillar from India won the Miss World 2017 title becoming the sixth Indian to take the crown home.

- Padmavati; the movie and the bounty
Padmavati is an upcoming Hindi, Bollywood Epic that has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bansali, depicting the heroism of Rani padmavati (a queen of Rajasthan who was originally from Sri Lanka) starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. Even before the movie has hit the theatres, it appears that public has been outraged owing to rumours and despite pleas from the director himself to please watch the movie before arriving at conclusions, threats have been leveled at the director and actress alongside a bounty that has been offered for beheading them.

The video on YouTube with over 19k views was uploaded just one day ago. The video looks into certain unethical practices that are used in the production of curd in Sri Lanka not by the small scale local dairy farmers but by the large scale production chains and how it can impact the consumer negatively.
